What to expect from a consultation

Initial consultations usually last up to about an hour and a half. In that time, your herbalist will take a full history, covering the onset and progression of your current problems, your general health, your diet and lifestyle. This will be used to make an assessment of the underlying state of your health.

Your herbalist will then give practical advice on changes to diet and lifestyle where necessary. A herbal prescription is individually composed for each patient. This may come in the form of a concentrated liquid for taking by the spoonful; dried herbs to make into teas; creams, oils, lotions, juices, baths; or a combination of these.

Follow-up consultations are usually booked at regular intervals to assess progress and make any changes to the herbal prescription, diet and lifestyle plan. They usually take about 30 to 45 minutes.

Duration of treatment. This may vary according to the nature of the problem. For uncomplicated conditions, often just two or three consultations are required. In more complex situations, treatment may be longer-term, but once there is steady and stable progress, follow-up consultations will usually only be needed occasionally, with repeat prescriptions in between. Our aim, wherever possible, is to enable people to achieve a state of health where herbal medicines are no longer necessary.
