I've heard a lot about Echinacea. What is it and what is the best way to use it?

Echinacea is a herb which boosts the immune system and helps you fight off viral and bacterial illnesses. For an otherwise healthy person, it is best used as a tincture (liquid medicine), taken in small, frequent doses at the very onset of a cold or other illness, continued for a few days until the symptoms have passed, and then put to one side until the next time you feel symptoms starting up. A good quality organic tincture, such as the one supplied by Alton & James, will last for up to three years if kept in a cool, dark place.

If you are one of those unfortunate people who suffer winter-long from one cold after another, or are prone to bronchitis, you can take smaller doses of Echinacea daily during the winter months to protect yourself from colds, flu, and chest infections.
